Basic Details

Adding a Recipe
The name is the only required field. If a description is given, it is also shown in the recipe list. If available, the number of servings should be entered as this allows the recipe to be scaled.

Special Diets

If a recipe caters for a special diet, such as gluten, dairy or nut free, this can be specified in the Special Diets expander. This lets you search for it easily later.

Recipes can be categorized to make finding them easier. A list of existing categories can be assigned or a new category can be added by typing a name, then clicking the Add button.

Adding a category

Ingredients can be entered on the Ingredients tab. Ingredients are organized into 'Sections' to allow you to separate different groups.

The last row can be used to enter ingredients

To add a section, click Add Section in the toolbar.

Adding Ingredients

The easiest way to add ingredients from recipes you find online is by copy and pasting.

The bottom row of the ingredients list can always be used to add new items. The only required column is the item name. After entering the name and other details, press Enter or click another row to add it to the list.

If you already have recipes or ingredients in saved recipes, the ingredient name is guessed as you type. Pressing tab will accept the ingredient name and move to the comment, enter will add the ingredient. Ingredient suggestions can be selected by moving to them with the arrows (up/down), then pressing tab or by double clicking them.

Removing Ingredients

Right click an ingredient then select Delete or click the cross icon to delete it from the ingredients list.

Ingredient Sorting

Ingredients can either be sorted by name or by sort index. The sort order can be changed by clicking the Sort Order button. The order of ingredients can only be changed when the ingredients in a recipe are sorted by Sort Order.

To change the order of an ingredient, select it then click Move Up or Move Down.

Directions can be entered in the Directions tab or using a larger editor which has buttons for common. Directions can only be plain text, which means any kind of formatting such as bold text is not supported.

To choose an icon for a recipe, click the Icon tab. The icon will appear in the recipe list.

Custom Icons

More icons can be added by opening the options window (Tools->Options->Icon). The easiest way to add icons is to simply drag them to the Options window.

Icons should be 128px for best appearance.

Icons can also be provided at named sizes which ChickenPing will use if they're available. This means you need a few versions of each icon but ensures they're sharp. Sizes used are 16, 24, 32, 64 and 128 pixel square. If an icon is called banana.png but you want it to look crisp in the recipe grid (which uses 16px icons), create a 16px version called banana_16.png as well as the fallback banana.png and place both in the icons directory. ChickenPing will also use banana_24.pmg, banana_32.png and banana_64.png throughout the application if they're available.

Goes Well With

ChickenPing can store combinations of dishes or wines which go well with each other. To pair two recipes, select the Goes Well With tab, then click Add Pairing to open the recipe editor window. Double click a recipe or click Add Pairing to create a pairing.

The quick search box at the top of the form can be used to quickly filter or search for recipes/wines. Double click a pairing to go to that recipe/wine. To remove a pairing, right click it, then select Delete.
